By becoming a member of Athol Forestry Cooperative, you will receive a forest management plan that is tailored to your specific woodlot and based on your values. The plan will be your guide to reach the goals that you wish to achieve for your woodlot.
Your management plan will be developed from an initial walk through of your woodlot and unbiased forestry advice. It will be based on best management practices, the forest ecosystem classification guide, watercourse regulations and wildlife habitat information, and will be built on the latest mapping program. You will receive a map of your woodlot, a detailed description for each stand in your woodlot, their attributes and condition, and a suggested timeline for work that is required.
As a member of Athol Forestry, you will also be provided access to funding for forest treatments (silviculture) from multiple sources as well as project management and mapping for silviculture and harvesting. This approach help ensure you get the result you desire by matching the work with the appropriate contractor.
If you prefer to do your own work, we can help with that too. We can help with prioritizing and laying out the forest improvement work to assist you to get the best result that will meet all applicable treatment specifications and regulation. We will market your wood and coordinate trucking to a variety of mills around the province, to make sure you get the best price.
As part of your membership with Athol, you become an associate member of the Forest Nova Scotia. This helps provide funding to our members for road construction and maintenance.
